Well according to the Arizona Republic article I read today, the Valley could break the record for the most consecutive days in May of 100plus degree weather by Tuesday. Today marked the 12th day in a row and 13 is the record. I a pretty sure we will beat this hands down. And what the hell does this say for our summer? OMG!!!! I am so not looking forward to it.

I never thought I would have anything nice to say about Arlen Specter but I apparently do. After 5 terms in the Senate as a Republican, Specter has announced that he is switching to the Democrats as his views are no longer in line with the Republican party.

WOW!!!!!

The Republicans are running scared now. Not only have they lost the White House and the majority in Congress, but now, one of the party’s top people is walking away. Turning his back because he doesn’t agree with where the party is going.

Thank you Arlen Specter.

another reason McDonald’s is bad for you

Last Wednesday, a couple was severely injured in their SUV when the McDonald’s golden arches fell off the pole it was attached to and hit the unsuspecting couple. The woman suffered a fractured spinal column and the husband had 70 stitches in his head.

Holy cow!!! I don’t care how strong the winds are, a sign should not blow off the pole it is attached to.

I hope McDonald’s is assisting the family with their medical needs.

A Phoenix photo radar worker was shot to death early Monday morning as he sat in the DPS photo radar van. Someone actually drove up tot he car and opened fire on this unsuspecting worker. What the hell is wrong with this society? Luckily the photo radar van was able to capture a picture of the suspects car and witnesses were ale to follow the car and inform Phoenix PD of the drivers moves. As of this afternoon the police have a suspect in custody. I just can’t believe something like this would happen. My thoughts go out to the workers family during this time of grief and pain.

I don’t know if I should be happy or sad about this.

Arpaio is missing an important border violence meeting to be on the show.

In an article in the Arizona Republic recently, they discuss the emotional and mental health toll the worsening economy is having on Americans.

This does not seem like this should be surprising news.

Or maybe I am biased in that as a crisis counselor this was apparent in the first few weeks of the economic downturn. We are a society dependent on money and when there is no money, we are going to have more stress. People are losing jobs left and right, thus not able to pay for their cars, their homes, their kids education. You name it, the economy is effecting it. And yes, our stress level is increasing which in turn will lead to an increase in depression and physical health issues.

I can only hope that we start to see a leveling off and a light at the end of the tunnel.

When I read the title to this article I had to do a double take. Really? A man was crushed to death by palm fronds? Holy shit!! I always thought it was a dangerous job to be p in a palm tree trimming away the fronds but OMG. This is unreal. A man was literally crushed to death under 2000 lbs of the palm tree’s tree skirt. My condolences go out to this workers family. And I have way more respect for this type of job.

Thanks to Scott I now know about this Culture Pass

If you have a library card you can go a check out a “Culture Pass,” which will provide up to 4 free admissions to various places such as museums. Times are hard for so many of us right now and this will provide a way for people to still go out and enjoy themselves. And for families to do things together. And for our city not to become stagnant in the economic turmoil.

How awesome is that!

utterly horrifying

In Massachusetts, a 23 year old man killed two of his sisters and attempted to kill the third. The details are horrifying and unbelievable. The youngest victim was 5 years old and he decapitated her. In front of a police officer after the officer broke into the house in response to a 91 call. WTF and OMG!!!!

I can’t even imagine the scene in that house and how much trauma the surviving sister experienced witnessing all the carnage. And the officer who witnessed the decapitation? Nothing could ever prepare you for that. NOTHING.

My heart goes out to the family.
